Dipòsit del Rei Martí: History and beauty in Barcelona

A cultural space in the district of Barcelona

Located on a 4,000 square meter plot, the Dipòsit del Rei Martí is an old rainwater collection tank that has been converted into a cultural space in the district of Barcelona. This place offers us a glimpse into the history of the city and has become an essential visit for lovers of tourism and leisure.

The story behind the water tank

The construction of the Depòsit del Rei Martí is linked to the existence of a water mine that crosses the property. Historical documents tell us that in 1361 the Crown transferred the ownership and use of the water to Bartomeu de Climent. During the 19th century, royal concessions were made to Jacint Roig and later, in 1876, Salvador Homs i Roca acquired the property with the obligation to improve the estate.

Next to the imposing Bellesguard Tower

The Depòsit del Rei Martí is located next to the Bellesguard Tower, an unmistakable castle-shaped building designed by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí. The Tower was built on the remains of the last fortress in which King Martin I the Human lived between the years 1408 and 1410. It is precisely thanks to the presence of this tower that the water tank has received its name.</p >

An impressive venue

The Dipòsit del Rei Martí was discovered in 2001 and has an area of 585 square meters. This space is made up of seven longitudinal naves full of arches and thirty pillars that transport us to another era. In addition, a green area will be created just above the warehouse that will serve as a recreational space for the residents of the area.

In summary, the Dipòsit del Rei Martí is a historical and cultural place that you cannot miss during your stay in Barcelona. Its history, together with the imposing Bellesguard Tower, and its impressive architecture make this space a unique place that will transport you back in time.
