Discover the magic of Casa Orlandai in Barcelona
A history of more than 150 years
Casa Orlandai is an emblematic building of Barcelona, located in the Gràcia neighborhood, dating from the 19th century. In 1870, an executive from the chemical company Cros bought it and entrusted the reform of the building to the architect Rafael Guastavino, who turned it into a bourgeois mansion. During the following years, the owners undertook successive reforms, and the majestic internal marble staircase and the polychrome stained glass windows are still preserved today.
In 1956 it became the Thalita School, which followed the Montessori educational method, and in 1974 it was renamed the Orlandai School, based on the principles of the progressive Catalan school of those years. Finally, in 2014, the Barcelona City Council bought it to turn it into a cultural center.
