Mirador del Poble-sec: Enjoy the best views of Barcelona
If you are planning a visit to Barcelona and want to enjoy spectacular views of the city, you cannot miss visiting the Mirador del Poble-sec. Located in a park perched on the northwest slope of Montjuïc mountain, this viewpoint offers you a unique perspective of Paseo de Colom and the port of Barcelona.
An oasis in the city
The Mirador del Poble-sec is located in a large and well-distributed park, becoming an authentic urban garden that acts as a transition between the forest landscape of Montjuïc and the Poble-sec neighborhood. Here you will find petanque courts, children's games and rest spaces protected by the shade of the trees and a pergola covered with climbers.
At one end of the park, you can admire a pond full of aquatic vegetation that collects the water that flows down an eighteen-meter-high waterfall. This waterfall is born in a small pond located up the mountain, creating a relaxing and refreshing environment.
Among the tree species that you will find in this magnificent park are jacarandas, hackberries, holm oaks, acacias, elms, cypresses and false pepper trees. In addition, in the large rest area there is a pergola covered with wisteria and virgin vines, creating an ideal environment to relax and enjoy the landscape.
History of Montjuïc
From the end of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century, Montjuïc was a place of recreation for the inhabitants of Barcelona. Many went up to this mountain to have meals outdoors and cool off in its numerous fountains.
Before becoming a public park, Montjuïc was divided into three large private estates dedicated to hunting or agriculture. However, on the occasion of the Barcelona International Exhibition of 1929, the City Council began to buy land in Montjuïc and landscape the mountain, thus creating a recreation area for the city.
Today, Montjuïc is one of the main natural spaces in Barcelona, offering visitors a perfect combination of nature and panoramic views of the city.
