Horta Velodrome: cycling and fun in Barcelona

Discover the Horta Velodrome, an emblematic facility that has witnessed important cycling competitions and events, located in the city of Barcelona. With capacity for 3,800 spectators, this velodrome was even the Olympic venue for track cycling during the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.

A space for everyone

The Horta Velodrome is not only the scene of exciting cycling tests and competitions, but it also offers a wide variety of activities for the enjoyment of Barcelona citizens and visitors. Here, introductory courses to the world of bicycles are carried out for both young people and adults, as well as technical training processes for those who wish to improve their level in cycling.

In addition, cycling lovers can enjoy the attached BMX circuit, perfect for mountain bike lovers, as well as the natural environment that surrounds the velodrome, the beautiful Collserola Park. Not far from there, you can also see Joan Brossa's visual poem, a sample of contemporary art that complements the experience.

Municipal Cycling School

The Horta Velodrome is also home to the Catalan Cycling Federation and the Municipal Cycling School. The school is a sports project that seeks to educate young people as responsible citizens through cycling, teaching them knowledge about road safety and transmitting values such as teamwork and effort.

This magnificent velodrome was inaugurated in 1984 for the World Track Cycling Championships. The architects Esteve Bonell and Francesc Rius, together with the collaboration of the German specialist Herbert Schürmann, were responsible for its design. So much so, that in the same year of its inauguration, the Horta Velodrome was awarded the prestigious FAD Architecture Prize.
