History of Campoamor Street

The old Rambla de Cortada, the current Campoamor street, was for many years the most elegant street in Horta: its modernist houses speak of a splendor past. There was a time when, when the heat arrived, the best of the Barcelona bourgeoisie strolled down Campoamor street. In part, it was due to the yellow fever epidemic of the year 1870: rich families decided to leave the city and took up residence on this street, first only in summer and then permanently. Walking through it today is reliving a bit of its golden past: the magnificent modernist towers in pastel tones, the fountain, the period lampposts, the parish church of Sant Joan and the patios, all constituted a very outstanding residential nucleus, the likes of which had never been seen before. never before in Horta.

The water tower

Just behind the fountain, located at number 35, you can see the Campoamor Tower, which was built to store the water that supplied this area. This neo-Mudéjar style tower was built in 1901 by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar. The building is on one floor and the main entrance is covered by a semicircular arch, as can be seen on the façade. The water tower is located on one of the corners of Campoamor street and is one of the most emblematic buildings in the area.

Campoamor Street Park

Along the street of Campoamor there is a park that extends from the street of San Juan to the street of San Vicente. It is divided into two parts: the first is the Campoamor street park, a green area with trees, grass and a fountain. The second part is the park on Calle de San Juan, a smaller area with trees and a fountain. The park is an ideal place to walk, relax and enjoy a sunny day. In addition, there are several benches to sit and rest. The park is open to the public from Monday to Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
