Besòs River Park: A natural oasis in Barcelona
The Besòs Fluvial Park is one of the most important green spaces in the metropolitan region of Barcelona. Located at the mouth of the Besòs River, this park is an ideal place to enjoy nature and practice outdoor activities. With an area of 115 hectares, it extends across four municipalities: Barcelona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Sant Adrià de Besòs and Montcada i Reixac.
A space for everyone
The Besòs Fluvial Park is divided into two clearly differentiated parts. On the one hand, wetlands, which have great environmental, biological and landscape value, but are not accessible to the public. On the other hand, the area for public use, with an extension of 5 kilometers, which has green areas, paved sections and a bike path. This area is perfect for walking, running, cycling or simply relaxing surrounded by nature.
The park also has viewpoints at the northern and southern ends, from where you can observe more than two hundred species of birds. Furthermore, in Sant Andreu, there are three entrances to the park, one in Baró de Viver and two more in the Bon Pastor neighborhood. This way, local residents and visitors can easily enjoy this wonderful natural environment.
The recovery process of the Besòs River
The Besòs River has experienced an important recovery process thanks to the joint efforts of the town councils of Montcada i Reixac, Barcelona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Adrià de Besòs, as well as the Consortium for the Defense of the Besòs. Starting in 1995, action plans were initiated to clean up and rehabilitate the river, with financing from the European Fund.
The Besòs Fluvial Park is the result of this project and was inaugurated in 2004. It is divided into three sections: the wetland areas in Montcada i Reixac, the public use area shared by Sant Andreu, Santa Coloma and Sant Adrià, and finally, the mouth. Thanks to the recovery of the river, the inhabitants of the area have gained a space to enjoy outdoor activities and connect with nature.
Fauna and flora in the park
The improvement of the Besòs River has led to the recovery of numerous natural habitats, which has led to the presence of more than 200 species of birds in the Besòs River Park. In addition to birds, it is possible to find small mammals such as mice or weasels, as well as turtles and frogs. This park has become a true refuge for local fauna, and offers visitors a unique opportunity to observe and enjoy wildlife.
In summary, the Besòs Fluvial Park in Barcelona is an ideal place to enjoy nature, practice outdoor activities and discover the region's wildlife. This natural oasis, the result of the recovery of the Besòs River, is an essential destination for nature lovers and a hidden treasure in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.
