Its history dates back to 1886, when the city council created the Municipal School of Music in Lledó street, in the Gòtic quarter. In 1928, the Conservatory moved to Calle del Bruc, in one of the corners with Calle de València, its current headquarters.

The Barcelona Music Conservatory building was designed by the municipal architect Antoni de Falguera and has two towers on the main façade that combine modernist and noucentista styles.
